Despite these efforts, energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions have risen in recent years, highlighting the persistent challenges in the pursuit of sustainability.

Aware of its role in the global ecological transition, the Centre des glaces Gilles-Chabotcontinues to work tirelessly to reduce its GHG emissions and improve its energy efficiency.

To bring this vision to life, it enlisted the expertise of TST, which managed the analysis, implementation, and monitoring of energy-saving measures. With TST’s support, the Centre des glaces Gilles-Chabot has been able to make informed decisions to optimize its environmental performance.

IMPLEMENTED SOLUTION

To guide the Centre des glaces Gilles-Chabot toward its full energy and sustainability potential, TST teams carried out a retro-commissioning (RCx) project, which was 75% subsidized by Énergir’s Building Tune-Up Program and the EcoPerformance Program administered by the Ministry of the Environment, the Fight Against Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks.

The two-year process of planning, investigation, implementation, and energy monitoring ensured that the Centre des glaces Gilles-Chabot received comprehensive support.

In addition to ensuring the proper operation of its energy systems, these services demonstrate the undeniable benefits of decarbonization.

More than 14 recommended measures, including:

  • Optimization of the heat recovery sequence
  • Optimization of ice and sub-slab setpoints
  • Adjustment of arena ventilation unit schedules
  • Adjustment of arena lighting schedules
  • Optimization of the fresh air supply unit airflow
  • Optimization of the heat recovery setpoint for hot water
  • Adjustment of building ventilation unit and heat pump schedules
  • Optimization of the arena unit defrost sequence
  • Optimization of refrigeration compressor discharge pressure
